Abstract |
Karen dresses indicate their cultural ethnic identity, particularly back-strap loom textiles. Weaving is exclusively for Karen women. Traditional dresses of the Karen ethnic group are basically the same. Women’s dresses are simply made, using the entire length of the woven cloth with three holes for neck and arms. For a sarong, two to three pieces of cloth are pieced together depending on the sizes of wearers. Unmarried Karen women wear white dresses while married women wear red or pink dresses with more elaborate designs.
