Abstract |
Lua and Karen have made different socio-economic adjustments to the Thai contexts. For the Lua, to become Thai-like is easier and happens when their economy is low; they migrate to the lowlands to become laborers. The Karen are more successful in their economic adjustment. Their social structure and geographical locations enable them to maintain their ethnic identity. At the same time, the structure also facilitates their success in the market-oriented economic system of Thailand.
