Abstract |
The factors affecting the economic order of the Muslim fishermen at Saensuk Village include the expansion of state power and mechanisms, the expansion of the commercial economy, the ecological conditions in the community, population growth, and the Islamic faith. The lifestyles of the villagers have become more market-oriented. Self-sufficiency has lost its balance. Occupations are more diverse and natural resources have been plundered, negatively affecting the ecological system. Besides fishery, many villagers have turned to the agricultural sector in the monsoon season and some have entered the labor market. Land for production and housing is in great demand. Nevertheless, Islamic beliefs with an emphasis on morality and mutual assistance have slowed down the change in the economy of the community brought about by the changes in the external society.
