Abstract |
The merit-making tradition in the tenth lunar month of the Malay Thais in Tumpat District of Kelantan takes place on the first and fifteenth waning moon days in order to dedicate merit to deceased relatives and hungry ghosts. Foods are offered to monks and poor people participating in the ceremony. The tradition reflects Thai culture concerning food, social interaction, beliefs, and art.
