Abstract |
Yaosilverware reflects the lifestyle of the ethnic group. Each type is designed to suit various occasions, and is related to their animistic beliefs and right down to using their daily utensils. The designs are all inspired by the surrounding nature and depend on shapes of each type, social values, craftsmanship, and creativity of craftsmen until they have become unique characteristics of the ethnic group. The hammering technique is mainly used to create the designs and the low-relief technique is utilized to make the designs more distinct. Additionally, geometric shapes are used to connect other designs together. The same patterns are found in their embroidery (pp. 75-85).
