Abstract |
The paper investigated economic roles of Kui women at Truem Village by collecting the data from documents, knowledgeable persons, and a total of 100 working-aged women. It was found that their economic roles were subsistence-oriented, producing for family consumption to reduce family expenditure. Their commercial economic role was aimed at raising family incomes, such as rice planting, raising domestic animals, daily wage earners, and silk weaving. Women would take part in the decision-making process in less labor-based activities. Since the Kui society is matrilineal, a groom moves in to live with the bride’s family, empowering women on the production process and enabling them to monitor their family economy. The study findings revealed economic roles of Kui women, which could be vocationally developed and promoted so as to increase family incomes.
