Abstract |
The study focuses on changes in the components, steps and beliefs of the Kor So Kam Poc Ritual (the rite of passage) of the Khmer Thais at Nong Kua Village. The ritual components include the ritual performer, a mother, monks, a top-knotted child, participants, sacrificial items, and shaving instruments. The ritual takes two days and is performed from the second to the fourth lunar months. Changes in the ritual have happened in the details of the ritual, such as paying more ritual money, using sacrificial items available in the market, and using more Standard Thai in addition to Pali and Khmer. The ritual is still maintained and it is important for parents as it is the symbol of the change from childhood to adulthood of their children.
