Abstract |
The Lawa ethnic group believes in the Spirit of Chao Luang Phu Kha, who protects them and blesses them with good agricultural yields. The small appeasement ritual is conducted every three years, using a pig as a sacrificial object. The big ritual takes place every seven years, requiring a buffalo as a sacrificial object. The ritual is conducted as a collective cooperation of the villagers. Additionally, the tribe believes in other spirits who are able to bless or harm them. The sharman would inform them about what sacrificial object is required. Appeasement rituals are conducted nine times a year. The tribe practices a rotation farming method and animistic practices are involved in almost every step of agricultural production.
