Abstract |
The Akha women have many social statuses: a young girl who is a daughter, and a labourer for the families. The roles of the Akha women are as wives, daughters-in-law and mothers and they are responsible for teaching the children, trading, house keeping, and being major labourers for the families. The woman who is a wife of the leader of a family is responsible for keeping money for the whole familys expenses. Most of the men are responsible for rituals such as sacrificing for the ancestor’s spirit and sharing their opinions at the village meetings, but some women, called “Ya Yeh ma”, have a special status and are accepted like the men.
