Abstract |
Under the British Empire, The Karen had many special rights and these rights guaranteed the independence of the Karen after the country became independent. However, when Burma became independent led by AFPFL, it faces internal conflicts and the Karen were not given a separate state. Thus, the Karen were unsatisfied and pushed for their rights. However, the Karen is a big nationality living in many separate areas and groups and each group had different benefits, so the Karen separated into many groups, especially the KNU and KYO and each group has its own different objectives and methods of fighting.
