Abstract |
This article is about the political organizations in the Yao village at Khun Haeng Village, Amphoe Ngaw, Lampang province. It focuses on the election of a headman following the political process set up by government officials. From an observation of the election of the Yao headman at Khun Haeng village, it is found that what is important for the election of the headman is the interaction between the traditional idea about the headman being a descendant and the demands of Thai law which is a part of the modern world. The Yao still want to pass the headman position to a descendant. Thus the research foresees conflict between the two groups in the future at Ban Khun Haeng.
