Abstract |
There were three types of savings among Thai Muslims, namely, keeping money by themselves, asking those they trusted to keep it for them, and depositing it in commercial banks. According to Islamic teachings, interest is a forbidden entity, asking Muslims not to use services of commercial banks, if not necessary. For this reason, an interest-free bank is needed, which is an Islamic bank. From the questionnaires responded by the sample group in the study area, it was revealed that the need for Islamic banks were at the moderate to highest levels, and certain items of needs were statistically different at the significance level of 0.05. From analyzing the needs, based on independent variables, it was found that the needs were identified according to gender, age, occupation, education level, and average income, as well as expenditure of households per year. It was recommended from the study findings that Islamic banks should be established for Thai Muslims to conduct proper economic activities according to their religious teachings and to develop general economy of the country.
