Abstract |
In 1983, it was found that Malay-Muslims preferred watching the television programmes transmitted from Malaysia, not the local ones in Had Yai. In this period, there were no queries about Malay-Muslims identity. However, in 1990, the situation has changed, the people prefer Thai television programmes. The factors causing this change are the Thai government’s economical and political development. The changed economic situation has considerably affected the socio-political structure of the Malay-Muslim community in the south. (p.89) Due to the installment of electricity and televisions in the south, there are changes in expanding and perceiving news and information the Muslims. Thus, it is not only the changes in their daily life, but it is also the changes in the socio-political ideas of the Malay-Muslims in the south. (p.93)
