Abstract |
Akha villages in Thailand are a dynamic and rotating agricultural society. Family leaders are males and kin relationship is patriarchal. When a son gets married, he will construct his house in the vicinity of his parents’, while a middle son may move to a more distant area. Being family members means participating in family rituals. After marriage, a man can have more than one wife, provided that he gets permission from his existing ones. Divorce is easily conducted and each one can marry a new partner. In the village, there are a village head, religious leaders and the elderly who oversee the well being of the villagers.
