Abstract |
“Phuan” is the name for a group of Thai people settled in Muang Phuan, Kwang Mueng Chiang Kwang in Laos. The assumed reason why this city is called Muang Phuan, is that it is located near a mountain called Phu Phuan, so the people who settled here are called “Phuan”. The Phuan believe in Buddhism. The Thai Phuan language is original Thai, but its pitch is similar to standard Thai rather than northeastern Thai. In the Thonburi period, when the Kingdom of Laos was merged with the Kingdom of Siam until the reign of King Rama III, the people on the left bank of the Khong river including Thai Phuan were herded to the right bank of the river and they scattered through the northeast and central Thailand
