Abstract |
This article is about the Hmong beliefs in death, and the rituals and beliefs about burial. It focuses on Hmong Dok and the funeral ritual arrangements of the Hmong in Ban Pa Khia, Amphoe Chiangdow, Chiang Mai province. The Hmong believe that the Kwan (spiritual essence) or soul is divided into 3 parts: the first one is in the land of death or heaven, the second one is nearby the grave and the last one is re-incarnation. Thus it is important that the soul should be correctly guided to the land of death and protected from the bad soul.
