Abstract |
The thesis investigates patterns and wordings as well as reflections in Khmer Thai lullabies. It is found that there are no definite patterns but they are generally similar to those of folk songs in Surin Province and Cambodia. As for wording, they are basic vocabulary items, repetitive words, implicative nouns, onomatopoeic words, classifiers, comparative expressions, and loan words. The contents of the lullabies include soothing, threatening and conditional for rewarding. Reflections are both concrete and abstract. Concrete reflections are about the socio-cultural environment, rice cultivation, livestock, nature, and women’s roles. Abstract reflections include the love of children, socialization, beliefs, social values, generosity, inter-dependency, traditions, and genetics.
