Abstract |
Shifting cultivation by minority ethnic highlanders has caused a lot of problems for Thailand, particularly an increase in cleared land and forest encroachment. Mae Boon Luang Village is a village in the Wieng Pha Highland Development Project under the Royal Initiated Project. The project attempts to settle villagers permanently and change their cultivation practices from shifting opium cultivation to cash crop and temperate fruit cultivation. However, many problems have remained unsolved, such as agricultural technology knowledge, quality of life, and education. The project is meant to improve the socio-economic systems of highlanders.
