Abstract |
This study examined socio-cultural structure indicators which influenced population growth of the ethnic group with a focus on ecological indicators that affected their lifestyles. The findings illustrated a strict conservation and maintenance of conventional traditions, with the ethnic group strictly adhering to monogamy and animistic practices, as well as traditional migration from one village to another. Lahu women were able to decide on family planning with approvals from their husbands. This investigation also highlighted the differences between lowland Lahu, who were more easily assimilated culturally and socially due to geographical proximity with low-lying Thais compared to those residing in highlands (pp. 1,8,10, 51-52).
