Islam and Civil Society in Southeast Asia, by Nakamura Mitsuo, Sharon Siddique, Omar Farouk Bajunid, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. |
Abstract |
Future state mega-projects could hardly be successful without popular support. The fight of Ban Khrua Community stresses that Thai society is not a mono-ethnic society. Minority rights must be respected. Any development project without popular approval must be examined. The conflicts over the last ten years of the community have reaffirmed that civil society in Thailand has been strengthened.
