Abstract |
The traditions concerning the livelihood of the Mons are still conventional and related to their animistic belief. Plays are mostly performed on Song Kran Day to provide entertainment and an opportunity for youngsters to court. Their folktales are embedded usually with beliefs and morality.
From investigating their folklore, families can be divided into four types, based on members, matrimony, dominance, and bloodline. Economic factors indicate their standard of living and livelihood. Agriculture still depends on nature. In terms of education, they believe in Buddhism and animism, and knowledge is transmitted via the family institution. Monks play the role of moral leaders.
