Abstract |
Aimed to investigate settlements of Muslim Thais in terms of their locations, sizes, distribution and other factors affecting their settlement patterns, particularly the importance of Islam and mosques to their settlements in Bangkok, as well as to analyze the relationship of Muslim communities with others in the area. Muslim Thais in Bangkok usually reside in their own neighborhood, consisting of people of the same lifestyle, race, belief and other cultural components, with the mosque as their spiritual and ceremonial center. Being in the same neighborhood and leading the same lifestyle, they tend to associate with and depend on intra-group residents. Muslim residents in rural areas have fewer opportunities to expose themselves to other non-Muslim communities than those residing in urban areas.
