Abstract |
The Kalerng ethnic group migrated to and has resided at Kut Haed Village, Kut Bak District in Sakon Nakhorn Province, for a long time. In the past, the group were hunter-gatherers in the Phu Phan Mountain Range. With population growth and official restrictions on collecting wild products and hunting animals, they earn a living by growing rice and tapioca, but do not like to trade. They are both animists and Buddhists. In the past, they married within their own group, but now marry people of other ethnic backgrounds. They have their own oral literature and popular themes usually involve sexual relationships, which are regarded as funny and natural to human beings. Other themes are concerned with funny and non-scary ghosts. They also like to improvise poems during temple fairs.
