Abstract |
According to their conventional beliefs, the Lao Song have many strict rituals in life from the cradle to the grave. The practices are their social duty but without obligations. Everyone is willing to carry them out without hesitation or resistance. However, their rituals have other social functions as well. They express gratitude toward their ancestors, enable relatives and neighbors to interact, tighten their relationships, create unity, indicate the status and prestige of the family, respond to their spiritual needs, and maintain the culture, traditions and customs of the ethnic group.
