Abstract |
The thesis explored socio-cultural changes of the Mon community due to its proximity to the metropolitan area, which have caused changes in education and in public infrastructure in particular. The investigation also concentrated on administrative management. Being an open society, the community is exposed to Thai people in the neighboring vicinity as well as to the state and private sectors. The changes include the economic system, particularly production. However, one aspect that has not changed is Buddhism, making adaptation and cultural acceptance easy between Thais and Mons. The language, religion and rituals of the group have been maintained in order to enhance ethnic solidarity and identity.
