Abstract

The purpose of this study are to compare the relationship between the socio-economical changes and the innovation acceptance, to create a predictive equation for the socio-economical changes with respect to the innovation acceptance between lowland and upland Hmong hilltribe people, 300 families served as the sampling. This study finds that the lowland Hmong are at an advantage over the upland Hmong in the areas: use of mechanical equipment in agriculture, size of agricultural areas, health care, birth control, income, religion, housing, houseware and clothing. Therefore, the innovation acceptance differently affects the socio-economical changes of the two groups of Hmong, i.e. the income of the lowland Hmong is higher than the highland Hmong because of the more convenient transportation, so they can see ways of agricultural production from other villages. Moreover, they are encouraged to change the mode of production to be commercial whereas the upland Hmong still cultivate for semi-self sufficiency. The significant factors causing the socio-economical changes of the upland Hmong are the agricultural innovation acceptance, education and public health. These helps Hmong earns more income, has a better life, but it affects the cultural systems in terms of language, costumes, housing size of family imitating the lowland Thai’s and it also affects the beliefs of fortune and religion.
