Abstract |
This research aimed at understanding the revival of rituals relating to community forest management of the Pga K’nyau ethnic group. A mixed-method approach was employed for the purposes of this study. The contents and related challenges were first established, and relevant study methods to address these challenges were subsequently defined. Firstly, a documentary research was conducted in order to obtain relevant secondary data. Some of the themes investigated in this study included:development of state’s forest management in the northern region, changes in those developed areas, as well as the conflicts between lowlanders and highlanders, and finally, the impacts of these changes on the Pga K’nyau ethnic group (p.30). Secondly, in-depth interviews were conducted with important community members and concerned state’s officials particularly regarding the changes in community forest (past and present), and the feedback of the stakeholders and operation of various groups in the area were further investigated(p.31). Thirdly, a field survey on forest ecology was conducted in order to investigate ecological fertility of the forest. Furthermore, ecological data were then examined through satellite images, and current ratio of the community forest and wildlife, and other essential management data were further analyzed(p.31).
