Abstract |
The author wanted to understand religion changes in an Urak Lawoi Community due to the influences of the tourism industry and the 2004 natural disaster, with the following questions.
-
What are the current roles of traditional religion for the Urak Lawoi?
-
What are the impacts of the tourism industry on the ethnic religion and culture?
-
How did the ethnic group view the 2004 natural disaster? Did it affect their belief?
-
What have been the trends of religious change and development in the past twenty years?
In the next twenty years, the fishing lifestyle would not be a part of the Urak Lawoi. Young people at Sala Dan Village had assimilated with new society and the tourism industry. The To Mor Culture was fading, paving the way for the ethnic group to become Buddhists and Christians. They had become more Thai and had been accepted in the Thai society at the expense of their traditional lifestyle and solidarity.
