Abstract |
Hmong is a group living with cultural belief as a frame of their way of life that combine the society together. The Hmong believes that ancestor spirit can foresee any events, so there is worship of the ancestor spirit before practicing any activities such as wedding ceremony. The culture is and indicator of the male and female power in the community by emphasizing male rather that female. Female will be valuable when they get married and have a son. The culture that male can have many wives or have sexual interaction with women who are not his wife is still practiced without any impacts on the tribal culture. The adolescents who fall in love with each other can have sexual interaction before marriage. The Hmong mostly gets married when they are too young about 13-14 years old. As for the young women who get pregnant before marriage, they have to proof who the father of the infant is, nonetheless, they will be blamed and hate by the people in the society. The status of female is inferior and they have less power of negotiation than the male.
In the consumerism society with the communication between the village and the outside society, it is a part of a cause of changes in the community, i.e. the education makes the young men and women leaving the community and abandoning their own culture, so it is high risk for the young women to be prostitute because of lacking of teaching.
Thus, the Hmong sexual culture makes them risky to be infected HIV, Even there is not any infected patients in any reports, the Hmong should be taught about AIDS in order to find solutions together by emphasizing on the culture and the community participation.
