Abstract |
The Mon community relationship is cordial. In the festivals, the Mon always cooks foods and gives it to the neighbours and brings it to make merit. The relationship with other communities is about trading, local songs, local performance and local bands. The Mon in Bane-kra-dee lives their lives following their ancestors with the text books Lokasiddhi and Lokasamutti as models of the practices. (p. 110) The rituals related to the Mon’s life such as Kon Phom Fai, wedding ceremony and funeral are the most important and there are many restrictions and practices. (p. 68-75) The rituals has been practiced following the community’s belief such as practicing ancestors, spirit performance, spirit worship, spirit entrance and making merit and Buddhism festivals. (p.98)
Nowadays, the way of life of the Mon in Bangkhuntien shows evidence of changing. The agricultural areas become the industrial areas. There are the migrations and cultural exchange. There are more facilities, so the independent society is lost. From the fishermen and the household industries, they become workers in the factories and work following the working hours. The people in the community have less time for interaction and the traditions and culture are less important as well as the community is weaker because they are not related to the industrial society. (p.10-11)
