Abstract |
The research focused on the cultural relationships between the highland ethnic Yao and the mainstream Thais which were found to be positive with each side lowering their cultural autocraticism. Relatively, there was no “us” or “them” and there were no cultural conflicts, accepting each other’s status for a peaceful and harmonious co-existence. The factors affecting these positive relationships included age, education, inter-group contact, participating in community activities, and economic status. Apart from economic factor, most factors positively affected cultural relationships between the two groups. Participation in inter-communal activities did not affect cultural relationships in the highland ethnic group (pp. 78-84).
