Abstract |
The objective of this research was to examine the manners of religious propagation, integration of guidelines and processes, and the dissemination of Buddhism and Christianity that could lead to peace in present societies. The results revealed that the important aspect of propagation of Buddhism was that the contents of such guidelines would bring about respect, unity and wisdom and they are suitable to the understanding of individuals. The propagation methods ought to be adjustable to circumstances, andpreachers should create appropriate and interesting environmentsin which the emphasis is placed upon understanding the contents. The propagation of Christianity mainly emphasizes love and compassion by preaching the messages and doctrines in the Bible. The focus is on compassion, loving kindness, and purity of souls.
For the preaching of Buddhism, monks apply the doctrines to social settings, and promote traditions and customs, as well as habits and intelligence of each listener. Some teachings and conventional beliefs are applied to suit social and cultural contexts of communities by conducting dialogues, lecturing, and answering Dharma questions. In addition, the core teachings of Buddhism are presented to followers so that they can be put into practice in daily life. For the preachings of Christianity, priests and religious leaders employ the principle of human relationship by approaching individuals or communities by themselves. Social welfare principles are also used by providing farmland to villagers, scholarships to poor and needy students, instruction to children and youths, and by adapting to local dialects to preach the doctrines. The propagation of both religions is aimed at preaching their respective principles to followers so such guidelines can be put into practice in order to lead to peaceful lives and societies by taking into considerationlocal traditions and beliefs.
