Abstract |
This thesis examined religious preachings of traditional Malay Muslims every Saturday at the Pattani Central Mosque in order to investigate religious movements of the activity that were indicative of negotiation, responses and insistence on being traditional Muslims under the modern contexts of the state and progressive Islam. The descriptive ethnological method was used by means of participatory observation. Each Saturday, traditional Muslims participated in and listened to the preachings at the mosque. The study findings revealed that over one thousand Muslims participated in the event each Saturday. The preachings were meant to interpret for adaptation, power relationship and creation of local conscience.
