Abstract |
This book is divided into four sections. Section 1 is about philosophy, religions, languages and literature. Section 2 is concerned with history, archeology and others. Section 3 deals with residences, architecture, music and others. Section 4 is about ethnicity. The book contains several articles about Lanna culture reflected through lifestyles and livelihoods of Tai Yuan or Khon Muang, the majority in the Lanna region, and other minority ethnic groups. It was told via the medium of Chiang Mai University, the first state university in the region that has played a major role in promoting the knowledge about residents in Chiang Mai and neighboring provinces. The book talks about Lanna from the past to the present, from the time when King Mang Rai the Great founded the Lanna Kingdom to the glorious periods and changes in its history. Nonetheless, Lanna people and other ethnic groups have had their stories to tell through their languages, culture, histories, economies and politics with Chiang Mai University representing and spearheading the Lanna Studies Project.
