Abstract |
This research compares wisdom-based quality of life of three groups of hill tribes: Karen, Akha and Lahu. Based on the criteria of “the Healthy Thais, Healthy Country Program”,comprising physical exercises, food, emotions, and environmental sanitation, the overall quality of life of these three ethnic groups is not much different. In terms of the process oflearning at the family level, knowledge is passed down from the elderly to younger generations. The learning process in the folk system is a combination of beliefs, faith, traditions, rituals, and knowledge that are related to the livelihood of the community members of the three ethnic groups. Their quality of life as it pertains to health and social vices however, are seemingly different. As for the behavior of individuals, families and the community, social rules are used as an important tool to encourage appropriate behaviors. Furthermore, past experiences and the wisdom of their ancestors are shared with members. Village leaders and the elderly make decisions in regards to what is good and appropriate in accordance with their respective social frameworks, which have been laid out by their ancestors.
