Abstract |
The Mon Spirit Dance is an expression of the Mon identity. It is a form of verbal and non-verbal cultural communication style to prevent community members from doing wrong to their ancestors and to promote social order and community spirit. The temple is the center of propagation with ritual conductors or “Tong” in charge of communicating with the community members and for organizing cultural activities through the family institution and other media. The structure of the spirit dance is based on conventions with strict animistic practices and the importance of “Tong”and other ritual-related taboos. The researcher wishes to establish a proposal based on the Mon Spirit Dance as a practical guideline to preserve this tradition in Mon communities.
