Abstract |
The ‘Mon Ram Dance’is an important cultural aspect indicating the ethnic identity, pride, and the lifestyle of the Mon ethnic group. The dance is performed in rituals and local festivals of the Pak Lat Mon Community. Nowadays, the dance is gradually disappearing due to ongoing socio-economic and cultural changes. This research attempted to revitalize and propagate this cultural heritage to the general public. The study results revealed that this dance’s cultural aspect originated in the reign of King Narai the Great. The dance is accompanied by the Mon’sensembleand performed in various cultural occasions based on conventional dance models. Performers stand in circle and the ensemble plays altogether 13 songs. Each performer wears her hair in a small bun decorated with flowers, a long-sleeved blouse with a round collar, and a sarong.
