Abstract |
This study examined the background, current contexts and problems of the Mon dance relating to posture, melody and music, dress, performers, dance duration, rituals, and customs. It was found that they were both similar and different, depending on the environment and socio-cultural changes in each area. The need to establish a standard of dance revealed that they were similar in terms of postures, melody, music, dress, performers, dance duration, rituals, and customs. These needed to be conventional in order to maintain the dance identity. The establishment of the dance standard summarized that there were six indicators with a practical criteria of 170 scores for the postures, three indicators with a practical criteria of 195 scores for the melody and music, one indicator with a practical criteria of 30 scores for the dress, six indicators with a practical criteria of 80 scores for the performers, two indicators with a practical criteria of 25 scores for the dance duration, and three indicators with a practical criteria of 40 scores for the rituals and customs. In order to pass the assessment, the overall scores had to be over 80%.
