Abstract |
A group of Akha women in the city of Chiang Mai tries to build up the Akhazang positive identity in order to get free from the misunderstanding of the outsiders in Thai society. Thus, the educated women try to build up their new image. In Thai society, the Akha is in the lower status, inferior and out side of Thai society, but the Akha image is used in tourism industry. The Akhan living in the city cannot geographical separate like the ones living on the highland because they have relationship with the various urban city following the contexts and the power of relations. The Akha in Chiang Mai has to struggle with many problems, however, they have to build up the right understanding in terms of their own identity which the outsiders misunderstanding. (p.1)
