Abstract |
This work was concerned with economic migration of the Lahu to Chiang Mai city center. Most were involved in daily wage jobs. When they were together and unable to understand Thai well, they therefore collectively established churches in the city center as a place for worshiping, meeting, expressing their homesickness, or sheltering sick Lahu coming to see doctors. The work was based on interviewing the ethnic group from two churches in order to compare their interacctions and assistance of others to settle their lives in the city and find work. Additionally, five Lahu were interviewed to reflect their perspectives on their livelihoods in different careers and impacts of state policies in the past four decades, which they tried to adapt to current socio-economic situations.
