Abstract |
This work was concerned with the ethnic tourism development involving the community, which was also collaboration between the Research Institute for Asian Languages and Cultures, Mahidol University, and Thai Song communities. It was a participative action research to make the Thai Song communites a prototype community in learning and transferring knowledge about sustainable ethnic tourism. Furthermore, a learning community network was created and enforced in order for the communities to solve their own problems. Five Thai Song communities in Nakhon Pathom province were involved in this study: Sakaerai, Don Thong, Hua Thanon, Koh Raet and Phai Hu Chang. The research had laid a foundation of sustainable tourism for the involving communities. Community leaders developed their tourism management potential, the development and an experiment of community tourism management was conducted, and a Thai Song cultural learning and conservation network was established. The participation enabled the ethnic group to manage their concept of ethnic tourism and to take pride in their culture and lifestyles, so that they could become sustainable in the future.
