Abstract |
The belief in ‘Sao Lak Muang” and in the angel of the city or the spirit of the city is related to Tai-Lao ethnic group and Thai in the central of Thailand at the present. Lak Muang has a role of exuberance and it relates to power and social control. When Buddhism was introduced, this belief in each area was adapted to empower Buddhism over the spirits. However, the role of Lak Muang in Buddhism and for the spirits is still disguised in terms of the power and the exuberance.
