Abstract |
This article studies maintaining ethnic values in Thai society with historical context focused on Chinese, Muslim and hilltribe ethnic groups. (p.22) It also studies the ethnical problems through the newspapers. (p. 26) There has been cultural assimilation by each ethnic groups for a long time and the most obvious case is the Chinese who have change their cultural identity and symbols become Thais. (p.23) As for Muslims, they still constantly adhere to Islam which affect the way of life, so assimilation is practiced through education. As for the hilltribes, the government has changed their beliefs through the religion and education as well as the opportunities for jobs which are different ways of solving ethnic problems. Therefore cultural assimilation takes place in different groyp in different ways. (p. 27)
