Abstract |
The purposes of the research are to study the relationship between Karen participation in implementation and their quality of life, factors relevant to the participation in implementation and level of quality of life and problems and needs concerning agricultural and social aspects of the Karen in Changwat Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi. The Research population is 160 samples. The research results indicate that: participantion in implementation significantly relates to level of quality of life, factors affecting participation are as follows: number of pieces of arable land; level of education; frequency of contact with government officials; and frequency in receiving messages concerning their agriculture and livelihood system. It is also found that factors related to the level of quality of life were soil quality and average annual income. For problems and needs of the Karen in the two provinces, it was found that they are faced with similar problems difficulty of delivering their agricultural products to markets because of poor roads; in addition, they also needed access to public amenities e.g. bridges, drinking water, wells etc. There should be a specific master plan in Hilltribe Development and Welfare Programs in order to allow continuity of implementation. As regards format of field action, there should be emphasis on area approach rather than mobile units as well as encouraging Karen representatives to be on village committees participating in the development of their own villages.
