Abstract |
This research investigated identity maintenance and contexts about the maintenance with a focus on the identity maintenance process amidst current changes of the Lahu at Huay Hia village # 8 in Tambon Pang Ma Pha, Pang Ma Pha district, Mae Hong Son province. It was found that the minority ethnic group maintained two identities. The original identity included dress, language, traditions, respect to the senior and resources, giving and sharing, and friendliness. The new identity was created in accordance with changes. It was revealed that each identity was formed in different contexts, but both had three important processes:
1.The concept on community solidarity
2.Community mechanisms
3.Learning processes to value the ethnic identity maintenance
The processes enabled the community to maintain their identities creating a good relationship among community members.
