Abstract |
This work compiled knowledge on ethnography in Thailand as an exhibition on arts and cultures for the National Museum in celebration of the Golden Jubilee in 2005, entitled “Thai Peoples in the Reign of King Rama IX”. It was found that there are over 40 ethnic groups in Thailand and cultural assimilation has inevitably taken place. To classify these ethnic groups, language is used as a criterion because language is an important identity of an ethnic group. Due to socio-political changes, ethnic groups can be found in all regions of the country. This work categorized ethnic groups in each region into two categories: indigenous and newly-arrived.
