Abstract |
The objectives of this qualitative research were to examine the system and process of meaning creation and identity to the entity called “development” of the state and villagers in the southern frontier province context and to present alternative data for social changes from different sectors in the case study village, Thung Phathana Village, in Satun province. The research applied the discourse, state and society and development concepts to explain the power relationship phenomenon between the state and the villagers via development issues (pp. D-E, 39-40). Related theories and studies were compared to indicate five issues of similarities and differences with previous studies. They included the identity of the village in the semantic discourse of development, power expansion of the state to the community and the state discourse establishment, adaptation and fight of the community, and development of alternatives (pp. 315-319).
