Abstract |
This article examined a change in the healthcare concept of the Khmer-Thai ethnic group in the northeastern region of Thailand. The data were collected from related literature, fieldwork interviews and community observations. It was revealed that this ethnic group had their own belief systems which were a combination of animism, Buddhism and Brahminism. There were also folk healers in their communities. However, with modern development, their healthcare perspectives had changed, such as, definition of health, beliefs in causes of illnesses and healthcare practices. From receiveing treatment from folk healers in the past, they opted for modern medical treatment in combination with folk healing.
