Abstract |
The research examined the morphological processes in the Kui, Bru and So languages. The areas of investigation were Langkay Village, Tambon Taen, Sri Khoraphum District, Surin Province, for the Kui language; Wern Buk Village, Tambon Khong Chiam, Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, for the Bru lannguage; and Phothiphaisan Village, Tambon Phothiphaisan, Kusuman District, Sakon Nakhon Province, for the So language. The investigation revealed that the morphological processes in the three languages were both similar and different. The similar processes of the three languages were affixation and reduplication. However, the main difference was that Kui employed a change in registers in its morphological processes. Affixation included affixes to change verbs into nouns and nouns into verbs, nominalized affixes, and verbalized affixes. Reduplication included complete and partial reduplication. When the morphological processes were analyzed, it was found that Bru and So were genetically closer than Kui and Bru or Kui and So.
