The thesis examined elements, steps and belief about the appeasement ritual of the Nang Ta Khian Spirit of the Yuan ethnic group at Sao Hai Village. It is found that the ritual is held every year on April 23. The purpose of the ritual is to thank the spirit for her protection and blessings in what the villagers have asked for. What the villagers have asked for includes being lucky, being healed from illnesses, being able to get a position in a new school or a work place, and being able to not to be conscripted. The appeasement steps involve the preparation of sacrificial items for the spirit and other lower spirits, so that the ritual can be complete. Sacrificial items for the two types of spirits are different, as the Nang Ta Khian Spirit is regarded as an angel, so whisky and meat are not offered. However, whisky and meat are offered to other lower spirits in order to distinguish between them. The ritual is an expression of gratitude toward the spirits for their blessings and protection as well as a gesture of the unity of the villagers who have faith in the angel.
